Neuropsychological Characteristics of Psychopathy
Main Article Content
Abstract
Psychopathy is a personality disorder characterized by affective and interpersonal difficulties and an antisocial lifestyle, which entails personality traits such as callousness, lack of empathy or guilt, and manipulation of others. Neuropsychological deficits related to attention and executive functions have been identified, especially those associated with the functioning of the ventromedial prefrontal and orbitofrontal cortices, such as inhibitory control, risk-benefit processing, or top-down modulation of attention. Neuropsychological assessment of cognitive deficits associated with psychopathy can contribute to understand its clinical manifestations.
