Resumen

La empatía es una capacidad compleja con componentes afectivos y cognitivos, esencial para la interacción social y el comportamiento prosocial. Su desarrollo comienza en la infancia y depende de factores biológicos, relacionales y contextuales. Al distinguir entre empatía cognitiva y afectiva, este artículo ofrece claves para entender cómo los psicópatas pueden comprender emociones sin sentirlas, lo que facilita conductas manipuladoras y violentas; esto es crucial para comprender el origen de conductas antisociales, mejorar el diagnóstico clínico y desarrollar intervenciones más eficaces, aunque su aplicación terapéutica en psicópatas aún enfrenta importantes limitaciones.
